The choir

A community of singers who enjoy working together and take pride in the sound they make.

What we do

We sing musical theatre as one ensemble, working on exciting and sometimes challenging repertoire, and along the way every voice in the room gets better. The focus is on sound, harmony and blend, and on the ensemble skills that turn a room full of individual voices into one sound.

We are creating a community of singers who care about the sound they make together and want to keep getting better at it. This is not a company where people compete for solos. It is about singing together, hearing the harmonies lock into place, and the pleasure of working on something demanding and hearing it come right. Along the way, that builds confidence and does a great deal for wellbeing.

When we perform, the band is live and on stage with us.

How we work

Rehearsals are well run and purposeful, and at the same time they are a space where singers feel supported, where it is fine to get something wrong on the way to getting it right.

Every singer has rehearsal tracks and scores in the members’ area, so notes are learnt at home and the time in the hall goes on blend, balance and phrasing. Ten minutes most days does more than an hour the night before.

Solos and small group numbers come later, as concerts approach, and they grow out of the ensemble work. Nobody is asked to sing alone until they want to.

Who it is for

Singers who already perform

You may sing with a society or a choir, or have been in local productions, and want the sound you make with other people to be better than it is now.

Singers starting out

You love musical theatre and want to sing it well. You do not need to have performed before or to read music. You do need to be able to hold a tune and be willing to learn your part.

Musicians

Hear My Song performs with a live band on stage. If you play to a good standard and love the repertoire, we would like to hear from you.
